One local high school student is making her dreams come true after being accepted into a very special musical program.

Clontarf Beach State High School student Chloe Keepa was recently accepted into the 2026 Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University’s State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP).

Chloe said she had naturally gravitated towards music from a young age.

“I first started as a percussionist at Clontarf Beach State School,” she said.

“My teacher at the time…realised how much I loved it and how fast I was advancing, which led me to doing some extension work and being in the Clontarf Beach State High School band (in) 2018.

“Since then, I have (been) playing the cello since 2019 and the bassoon since 2020. I dabble in other instruments for fun and actively play with the Northside Concert Orchestras, who have been a huge support in my musical journey.”

A Rising Musician with Big Dreams

In her pursuit of musical excellence, Chloe’s long-term goal has been to become an instrumental music teacher right here on the Peninsula.

Being accepted into SHEP is just the beginning of being able to achieve her long-term goals for the future.

“I was super excited about SHEP,” she said. “It makes it feel like all my hard work has paid off.

“I am looking forward to reconnecting with friends I usually see at SHEP each year, but also making new friends and working with expert conductors who, even in three days, help me become a better musician.

“My major goal is to make people happy with my music. Music is something that brings people together, and I would hate to see its presence in our schools and communities fade out.”

Whether you are playing an instrument or composing music, Chloe said it was important not to let anyone dictate your love of music.

“Music creates and spreads all emotions: love, tragedy, and other complexities,” she said. “Whether you play an instrument or not, let music comfort, inspire and support you through your life and never be scared to let it come and go.

“Good luck to my fellow musicians of Redcliffe on your musical journeys, especially those who are just beginning!”
