Redcliffe’s The Loft Gallery and Coffee House, known for its art exhibitions, vintage items, and café, has now introduced musical get-togethers, otherwise known as ‘jamming sessions’, as yet another layer in an already vibrant and eclectic atmosphere.

Held on Saturday afternoons at the venue on Sutton Street, these relaxed gatherings are open to musicians of any level to simply drop in and improvise together.

According to Dagmar Maini and Jason Maini, founders and owners of The Loft Gallery, Dagmar spearheaded the concept after realising that many existing customers were also musicians.

“Dagmar wanted to bring them together to jam and create something new for everyone to enjoy or join in,” Jason said.

Jason said that since then, many new faces had joined the group “with their instruments or simply with their voice”.

A Creative Community Without Pressure

“Dagmar and I never know how it will turn out, but one thing we can count on is that everyone enjoys playing, listening, or just being a part of it – and you never know who is going to walk through our doors.”

One such attendee is Marco Trimarchi, who became involved in the jamming sessions after they were recommended by friends, with Marco already being familiar with The Loft Gallery after visiting for coffee (which he said he favours).

According to Marco, he enjoys meeting people who have heard of the sessions and come along for a look.

“There is no ego and no pressure – it’s a safe space for anyone to be there,” Marco said.

Marco said that the enhanced acoustics of the upstairs warehouse-style venue provided the ideal conditions to enjoy music “raw, unrehearsed and in its natural flow”.

“There is a unique vibe at The Loft – the owners are friendly, and for a space that is primarily a gallery, it has a charm that cannot be found anywhere else on the Peninsula,” he said.

Marco, Dagmar, and Jason all shared the view that the jamming sessions bring like-minded people together, creating a tangible benefit for the community.
