Come and get hands-on at a celebration of all things handmade and creative this month!
Craftival is a free, family-friendly event at Redcliffe Library, where you can take part in workshops, drop in on demonstrations, browse a pop-up marketplace of locally handmade treasures and be inspired by talks from high-profile creatives. All activities are free but bring cash or cards to buy food and shop at the market.
Crafter-in-Residence, Jennis Ardern, said craft and making things was so important in community storytelling as, historically, people did not craft in isolation but came together to work on their projects.
“I think that Craftival is going to bring makers together in the City of Moreton Bay in a fresh and fun way,” Jennis said. “I’m looking forward to the new ideas that this event will inspire.
“I’m thrilled to be the Crafter-in-Residence at The Sewing Studio. I’m going to be sewing a mystery garment throughout the day. The best part of this project is that everyone can make and add their own little piece of crafty joy to the garment. It’s a great way to try craft without committing to making something from start to finish. Sewing it all together will be my job. Everyone will get to see all the colourful pieces come together and become something wonderful.”
Workshops, Special Guests, and Delicious Eats
Other all-day drop-in creativity activities include basket weaving with Wakka Wakka woman, Kristine Ellis, designing a sticker to take home and face painting and crafts for kids.
Meet Musician-in-Residence local musician, songwriter and producer, Aaron Shanahan and learn about the podcasting, DJing and sound recording capabilities of the Sound Studio.
Ensure you catch celebrity inspirational speakers Rachel Burke, who has dressed Cate Blanchett and Harry Styles, written books and can turn a cereal box into a glam handbag; and Geneva Vanderzeil – a DIYer and online creator inspiring millions to be creative and transform the everyday into something extraordinary.
When all the crafting and learning makes you hungry, fuel up in the food truck alley with coffee, sweet treats, pizza and German sausages.
