Ever wonder how writers come up with their story ideas?
FAWQ (Fellowship of Writers – Queensland) invites you to meet author Jack Roney at Redcliffe Library this month as he shares how factual events and real-life experiences prompted ideas for his historical mystery and crime fiction novels.
Author, writing mentor, and co-host of The Genre Fiction podcast, Jack said he will be talking about writing what he knows, his journey to publication, and giving practical advice on publishing and writing.
“I talk about how 33 years as a police officer and detective inspired the characters and stories in my fictional Detective Jarrod O’Connor series, and how the real-life Camp Mountain train crash in 1947 inspired the story idea for The Ghost Train and the Scarlet Moon, a historical mystery with a twist of time travel,” he said.
“I also speak about publishing options such as self-publishing, as well as how entering writing competitions helped me get noticed and eventually offered my first traditional publishing deal.
“We wrap up with writing processes and general tips for emerging authors.”

The event includes afternoon tea, lucky door prizes, book sales and networking opportunities. Jack will be available afterwards for a chat and book signing.
