An effort to declutter and a way to keep busy has evolved into a range of bejeweled giftware crafted by a local resident and stocked at boutique store Something About Audrey.
Many people in the Sandgate area and beyond have taken notice of the dazzling plant pots and other goods from Stuck on Sue that now appear in the shop’s window.
After painting pots in an art group and deciding to take them home to finish, creator Sue Comley said that the idea came to her to add a number of leftover diamond art jewels.
“This became a hobby, and I started to buy lots more pots, lots more jewels – more than I knew what to do with,” Ms Comley said.
Stuck on Sue Shines at Something About Audrey
When social worker Michelle from Divine Directions, was helping her to sift through her stockpile, Sue discovered how many pots still needed to be decorated.
“I had intentions of decorating these as gifts for people, and I got so carried away with bejewelling the pots, and the birdhouses and jewellery boxes that I didn’t know what to do with them all,” Ms Comley said.
After giving away at least half of the pots she made, branching out into selling the goods made sense due to overflowing volume, with Michelle making moves to get Ms Comley’s talents recognised in the commercial sense.
Michelle took in about six pots to the store owner, Kelly May at Something About Audrey, and the rest is history for Stuck on Sue, with the process of crafting being something that Ms Comley finds constructive.
“I get a thrill when one of my pots is finished, and some I like better than others, and they are all very unique, and I feel that I’ve achieved something while sitting here at home,” she said.
“I’d like to thank Michelle for helping me organise my craft supplies and suggesting that my pots get sold, and I’m happy that Kelly liked them enough to display and sell them in her shop,” Ms Comley said.
