Sporting season is back, and one Redcliffe State High School student has taken home gold in baseball.
Archer Petersen and his team won gold in September at the Queensland Representative School Sports Baseball Tournament.
Baseballer and student Archer Petersen said the win was a really fun and exciting experience.
“There were so many ups and downs at the beginning,” Archer said. “We lost our first game and were getting used to playing with each other as a team, as a lot of us had never played with each other until that first game.
“We came back from the first loss, worked ourselves out as a team and smashed out the rest of the tournament to win the rest of our games.”
Archer has also earned a spot on the 12-14 Years Queensland Representative School Sport Baseball Merit Team.
“It is a real honour to be picked and recognised at the top level of this gameplay competition to represent your school, your region and your state,” he said.“At this stage, our U14 School Baseball doesn’t go further to play at a national level. The trials for the U15-19 Representative School Baseball are in a few weeks, and the tournament is held in Cairns in mid-2026.”
A Passion That Travels the World
Archer has been playing baseball since he was eight years old, having played around Australia and even around the world.
“I love playing baseball because I get to hang out with and meet the coolest and funnest people I’ve ever met,” he said.
“Baseball has opened up so many opportunities for me that I could never have imagined. I’ve had some amazing opportunities to represent Australia.
“My Brisbane North Regional team played at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania in 2022, and just recently in August at the Junior League World Series in Detroit, Michigan.
“I was fortunate to play for Australia in Taiwan at the U12 World Cup, and closer to home, I’ve got to travel all over the place, so I’ve seen many baseball fields.
“The love for the game keeps me really inspired…If anyone, at any age…is keen and interested to play baseball, give it a go.”
