Grass Emperor are a popular catch in Moreton Bay, especially around Redcliffe, where they’re a common target for anglers.
Habitat, Bait, and Taste
Often found around sandy bottoms, reef edges, and seagrass beds, these fish are usually caught on most baits like prawns, squid and fish flesh. Their silvery-green bodies and subtle markings make them easy to identify, and they’re a rewarding species for both novice and experienced fishers. Grass Emperor can grow up to around 70 cm, making them a satisfying catch for the table as well as your light tackle. Known for their firm, tasty flesh, I rate them at least 4/5 stars on the table.
