What happens when an artist famed for custom car drawings sets his sights on challenging our view of femininity?
Known nationwide for his detailed automotive portraits and drawings, local artist Cris Cross invites audiences to step into his solo exhibition Reflect – a collection of bold visuals and provocative themes designed to challenge viewers to redefine the narratives of how women are perceived. The exhibition takes place between 14 November and 16 November at On Oleander in Kippa-Ring.
A Celebration of Femininity and Strength
Cris said that at its core, Reflect is a celebration of the female form and femininity, seen through the lens of masculine materialism that defines much of our modern world.
“It explores the tension between women being viewed as objects of desire and their reclamation of that same gaze through feminine strength and self-awareness,” he said.
“Featuring large-scale works designed to command open spaces, the collection uses chrome as its central subject – a reflective surface symbolising both material desire and self-confrontation.
“In this space, beauty is both confronted and redefined – vulnerability meets power, and the feminine spirit rises beyond the confines of perception to stand unapologetically free.”
