Redcliffe Art Gallery’s popular Art After Dark program is set to bring a touch of festive cheer with a special workshop this month, creating soft sculpture Christmas decorations.

The session will be led by Dr Deborah Eddy, a Scarborough-based artist and teacher. Dr Eddy, who earned her Doctorate in Visual Art at the age of 68, has worked across Moreton Bay’s galleries and museums and now runs her own workshops alongside volunteering as Gallery Manager at Redcliffe Art Society.

“I’ve been teaching Art After Dark for over three years, and my mantra is that there is no right or wrong way to make art,” Dr Eddy said. “The sessions are always relaxed, supportive, and fun; it’s about enjoying the process as much as the finished work.”

The workshop on Friday, 7 November, invites participants to design and create their own Christmas textile decorations to hang on the tree or give as gifts. Patterns will be provided, but there’s plenty of room for individual creativity.

City of Moreton Bay’s Mayor Peter Flannery encouraged residents to embrace the festive fun.

“There’s no shortage of festive activities in the City of Moreton Bay, and Art After Dark is a creative way to get into the Christmas spirit,” he said.

Meanwhile, Councillor Karl Winchester said, “It’s wonderful to see locals coming together to learn varied techniques from Dr Deb Eddy while enjoying a hands-on, social evening at Redcliffe Art Gallery.”

Tickets are $10, with all materials provided. Spaces are limited, so bookings are essential.
